More than just a good drop
If there’s one thing I love doing in my spare time it’s discovering new places to eat out. I’m possibly not your typical diner either, my expectations are high when it comes to the type of experience I crave, sensational food and outstanding service. Recently I visited one area of the Coast that I don’t frequent enough, the Hinterland. Not being familiar with where to go I asked a girlfriend for a great suggestion. Well, did she deliver!
My husband and I ventured up the hill for date night to Brouhaha Brewery in Maleny. Tucked away in suburbia it’s quite the find I assure you. Walking in I instantly felt like I’d been transported into inner city Melbourne. The vibe is relaxed, the view from the deck tranquil and the décor stylish and on trend. The first thing you’ll notice is the 10 tap bar made up of subway tiles, recycled timber and marble. To your right an impressive line-up of gleaming stainless steel tanks brewing the precious drop beer enthusiasts refer to as a frothie, bevvo or cold one.
My husband couldn’t wait to jump straight in to sampling some of the local ale and ordered the tasting paddle of beers. He was quick to point out he enjoyed them all but disappointed that he’d volunteered to drive. Good planning on my part obviously! Not being much of a beer drinker myself I was suitably impressed with the wine list, indulging in a few glasses or the Chalmers Vermentino and some divine French Rose. Bravo to the person with the refined pallet that selected the wines on offer, a big gold star from me. Let me share with you my thoughts on the food, the glorious food! I seriously get hungry thinking about our dining experience. To begin, we shared the Pork Scatchings and the locally sourced Baked Goats Cheese, both delicious and a perfect way to kick off our food journey. For the main event we ordered the Roasted Free Range Pork Belly as well as the Steak Cut of the Day and rotated each other’s plates, very romantic or just plain greedy, you decide. Both dishes were delectable, perfectly balanced, made our tastebuds sing and put us in a serious food coma. After vehemently declaring we had no room for dessert we glanced at our menus and decided on the Sticky Toffee Pudding to be washed down with a glass of Hoochery Ord River Rum with Dry and fresh lime, as you do. We’d only taken a few bites when the Chef surprised us with a new dessert soon to be added to the menu to try, the Brouhaha’s take on the humble Jam Roly-Poly. If the Pudding wasn’t heavenly enough the Roly-Poly topped off an incredible night for us. I was instantly taken back to my childhood when Mum would whip up a Roly-poly for afternoon tea or dessert. No words really, it was simply scrumptious.
If you haven’t made the trek up the hill lately then I’d highly recommend you do. Locally made craft beer, food sourced and showcased from the region and a team committed to making you love your time at Brouhaha Brewery as much as they do. One last thing I discovered handwritten on the walls as I was leaving that I think summed up our night perfectly. Brouhaha, derived from the Hebrew phrase meaning “Blessed is he who comes!’
